Transportation Driver Position Overview

Transportation Drivers are responsible for safely transporting residents and patients to and from hospitals, medical facilities, appointments, and other destinations using an Elderwood vehicle. This includes assisting with the safe loading and unloading of residents who are transit disabled or wheelchair-bound, as well as securing passengers, personal belongings, and medical equipment for transport.

Essential Job Functions

1. Safely transports incoming admissions from hospitals to Elderwood facilities or non-affiliated facilities using an Elderwood Senior Care vehicle.
2. Safely transports medically stable residents/patients between medical facilities and other approved destinations.
3. Assists transit-disabled, wheelchair-bound, and other residents with safely entering and exiting the vehicle.
4. Ensures all passengers are safely assisted, positioned, and secured before departing for the destination.
5. Safely transports residents, personal belongings, and medical equipment as requested and appropriate.
6. Drives responsibly and safely to protect passengers and minimize damage or excessive wear and tear to facility vehicles.
7. Ensures assigned vehicles are maintained in safe operating condition, including appropriate fuel levels, cleanliness, tires, inspections, and other routine safety checks.
8. Promptly reports mechanical concerns, vehicle damage, or other maintenance needs to the Transportation Services Coordinator.
9. Complies at all times with New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws, applicable NYS Article 19-A requirements, and the Woodmark Transportation Manual.
10. Communicates with pickup and destination locations regarding anticipated arrival times.
11. Notifies family members or designated contacts regarding new resident transfers, as directed.
12. Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of wheelchair lifts, ramps, securement systems, and other accessible transportation equipment.
13. Maintains respectful, courteous, and compassionate interactions with residents, families, staff, medical personnel, and visitors.
14. Observes residents' rights and maintains confidentiality of resident and patient information at all times.
15. Provides appropriate assistance while respecting each resident's dignity, privacy, independence, and individual needs.
16. Attends facility meetings, staff meetings, and required or preferred inservices.
17. Arrives to work on time, regularly, and works as scheduled.
18. Generates and develops ideas which improve the quality of resident services or increase position productivity and satisfaction.
19. Performs all position duties according to applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards of practice.
20. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of applicable policies and procedures and ability to reference them.
21. Consistently demonstrates the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current transportation and resident needs.
22. Utilizes electronic timekeeping systems and other technology as directed.
23. Recognizes and follows the dress code of the facility, including wearing a name tag as required.
24. Follows policies and procedures regarding electronic devices, computers, tablets, and other technology.
25. Supports and abides by Elderwood's Mission, Vision, and Values.
26. Abides by Elderwood's Business Code of Conduct, compliance, and HIPAA policies.
27. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, management staff, or Administrator.

 

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in a driving-related position
• Valid New York State Class A, B, or C CDL with passenger endorsement
• Clean driving record with zero points and no accidents within the previous 36 months, subject to individual review
• Initial and continuous compliance with New York State Article 19-A requirements, including applicable employment history investigations, driving record reviews, criminal history requirements, medical examinations, drug testing, vision testing, and hearing testing
• Ability to meet all applicable requirements for continued authorization to operate vehicles on behalf of the Company
• Knowledge of local roadways and transportation routes preferred
• Experience operating fleet vehicles and/or accessible transportation equipment preferred
• This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
