What You’ll Do:

• Screens and provides an in-depth evaluation of the needs of ventilator and respiratory clients. Consults with the attending physician and pulmonologist regarding treatment protocol. Provides written recommendations for interdisciplinary care planning and treatment.
• Informs residents or qualified representative about care and treatment plan and possible outcomes of treatment, or lack of treatment if resident or qualified representative refuses participation in a respiratory therapy program.
• Develops a treatment plan and initiates ventilator weaning protocol and/or respiratory therapy in accordance with the physician’s orders; maintains required contact with physician.
• Maintains written evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries of residents receiving respiratory treatment and monitoring according to state, federal, and facility policies.
• Attends and provides input at the interdisciplinary care team meetings; completes required documentation after the meetings.
• Records resident’s plan of care in the Interdisciplinary Care Plan as required or as needed.
• Orients and trains Respiratory Therapists; oversees educational program of respiratory therapy students affiliated with the facility.
• Orients and trains other direct care staff.
• Orients and oversees the work of staff Respiratory Therapists. Schedules respiratory assignments and collaborates with the Director of Nursing regarding Respiratory Therapy staff performance on an ongoing basis.

What We’re Looking For:

• Minimum of Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited educational institution; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Possession of active, unencumbered state Respiratory Therapist license in state where work is performed. Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in respiratory therapy is required. Pediatric experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid CPR and First Aid certification.
• Interest in respiratory therapy treatment program for chronic ventilator, ventilator weaning, and respiratory rehabilitation population.
• Display of genuine concern for the pediatric and chronically ill; is dependable, patient and compassionate attitude towards residents.
• Ability to cooperate and maintain respectful treatment towards others. Sense of responsibility, maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with residents, families, and other staff members.
• Ability to perform assigned tasks based on Pediatric Specialty Care Core Values and to a high degree of excellence and cleanliness.

Lead Respiratory Therapist (RT) Essential Job Functions:

6. Conducts monthly mock codes in conjunction with facility educator.
7. Maintains a valid CPR instructor card.
8. Orients and trains Respiratory Therapists; oversees educational program of respiratory therapy students affiliated with the facility.
9. Orients and trains other direct care staff.
10. Orients and oversees the work of staff Respiratory Therapists. Schedules respiratory assignments and collaborates with the Director of Nursing regarding Respiratory Therapy staff performance on an ongoing basis.
11. Develops and conducts in-service training programs for other personnel involved in direct care of respiratory residents.
12. Develops and conducts routine monitoring of quality assurance and patient safety initiatives.
13. Oversees respiratory in-service training for families of chronic respiratory residents.
14. Meets as required with Administration staff to discuss department operations.
15. Leads department meetings in conjunction with Director of Nursing and participates in the following inter-department meetings: a. Interdisciplinary Care Team Meeting b. Quality Assurance Committee c. Safety committee
16. Collaborates with Central Supply regarding requisition supplies and equipment for Respiratory Therapy Department.
17. Reviews and recommends updates annually the written policies and procedures of department.
18. Serves as Respiratory expert when needed to the organizations policy and procedure committee.
19. Collaborates with administrative team to ensure regulatory compliance related to respiratory therapy.
20. Collaborates with admissions team as needed to evaluate referrals and assist with admissions.
21. Arrivesto work on time, regularly, and working as scheduled; responsible for own transportation.
22. Recognizes and followsthe dress code of the facility including wearing name tag at all times.
23. Performs assigned duties according to the service excellence standards and goals established for this position, and for all staff members of this facility.
24. Attends facility meetings, staff meetings, and required or preferred in-services. 26. Meets or exceeds required annual hours of in-service training.
25. Generates and developsideas which improve the quality of care for residents or increase position productivity and satisfaction.
26. Performs all position duties according to safety rules and practices required for this position, and as required to ensure the general safety of staff, residents and visitors of this facility.
27. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate manual.
28. Exhibits the highest level of customer service towards residents, staff and visitors.
29. Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
30. Utilizes electronic timekeeping system as directed.
31. Follows policy and procedure regarding all electronic devices, computers, tablets, etc.

34. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, management staff or Administrator.
