What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the Nursing Services Department, overseeing daily operations, staffing, and care delivery.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required); MSN preferred

  • Current RN license in Pennsylvania

  • Pediatric nursing experience

  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a 24-7 healthcare setting

Responsibilities

RN - Director of Nursing - Pediatrics 

 

  • Organize and direct nursing administration, nursing services and individual care developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Service Department, its programs, and activities.
  • Maintains clear lines of authority and responsibility with the development of nursing services.
  • Participate in developing, maintaining, and periodically updating written nursing policies, procedures, reference materials, manuals, objections, and philosophies.
  • Ensure that the nursing services policies and procedures/employee handbook are always current and reflect the day-to-day operations and procedures at the facility.
  • Assist in developing and implementing methods for coordinating nursing services with other individual services along with complying with nursing quality goals.
  • Work with QA/QI Committee to develop & implement plans of action to correct deficiencies.
  • Send drafts of all Plan of Correction to correct deficiencies to corporate Chief Nursing Officer for approval prior to submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Complete incident reports and follow up on reports. Reporting to the corporate Chief Nursing Officer as required.
  • Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charts, etc., ensure that all nursing services personnel are performing their respective duties.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and maintaining a quality assurance program.
  • Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining individual discharge procedures and plans.
  • Participate in surveys and inspections by government agencies; and make reports and recommendations to the Administrator concerning operations of the department.
  • Knowledge of company goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Utilizes company policies and procedures, job descriptions, quality assurance surveys, regulations, etc., to identify, plan, implement, and assist in evaluations of experiences.
  • Assure adequate 24-hour nursing coverage in facility each day.
  • Determine the staffing needs of the nursing service department necessary to meet the total nursing need of the individuals.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, counsels, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates nursing services personnel, nursing personnel, job descriptions, document, and coordinate personnel actions with Human Resources Coordinator.
  • Assist in scheduling department work hours.
  • Recommends the number and levels of nursing personnel to be employed.
  • Delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to nursing services supervisory personnel as deemed necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Make at a minimum daily round of the nursing service department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable ensuing standards.
  • Evaluating absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of nursing care personnel are always on duty.
  • Evaluating, implementing, and informing the interdisciplinary team to ensure qualitative requirements are being met as specified by the policies and procedures.
  • Review personnel complaints and grievances and ensure that all personnel are treated consistent with policies and applicable laws.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluation, determining growth needs and goals.
  • Participate in interviewing and screening individuals for admission to the facility.
  • Inform personnel of new admissions, ensure that rooms are ready, greet new admissions, and escort to rooms, monitor individual’s treatment and medications to ensure individuals are receiving proper care.
  • Review nurses’ notes to ensure proper documentation is maintained relating to individual’s treatment, medications, and conditions.
  • Ensure proper record keeping by the physicians.
  • Facilitates communication among employees, Supervisor, and instructors in all shifts to assess, plan implement, and evaluate individual related programs.
  • Assist and participate in developing for each individual a preliminary a comprehensive assessment and written plan of care that identifies with nursing and medical problems and/or needs of the individual and the goals to be accomplished for each problem and/or need identified.
  • Encourage individual and their families to participate in the development and review of care plans. Ensure that all nursing services personnel are aware of the care plans and that care plans are used in providing daily nursing services to the individual.
  • Review nurse notes and monitor individual to determine if the care plans are being followed and if each individual's needs are being met, and, participate in assessing, reviewing, and revising care plans as required.
  • Assists in developing safety/infection control for the department.
  • Lead or Assist in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure that tasks in which there is potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.
  • Assist in preparing budget, educates department staff, and follows set budgetary guidelines as approved by the Administrator.
  • Develop and implement procedures that ensure departmental supplies are used and efficient manner to avoid waste.
  • Reviews Pharmacy bill and follows up as needed. Sends pharmacy errors to Chief Nursing Officer monthly for tracking.

 

Qualifications

RN - Director of Nursing - Pediatrics 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, bachelor’s degree required
  • Current license to practice in Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Working knowledge of the needs of pediatric complex care requiring long term care, the principles of management, supervision, organizational behavior and structure, and communication systems
  • Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of experience as a supervisor
  • in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care
  •  facility
  • Must have 5 of more years of experience in related position
  • Computer knowledge preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
