Transportation Driver team members assist with ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by being responsible for safely transporting and transferring incoming admissions via ElderWood Senior Care vehicle from hospitals to any of the ElderWood Senior Care facilities or non-affiliated facilities. In addition safely transporting medically stable residents/patients via ElderWood Senior Care vehicle between medical facilities and loading transit disabled, or wheelchair bound passengers in and out of the vehicle. In addition to providing safe and reliable transportation for our residents, this position also supports our community by assisting with general maintenance needs. Duties may include light repairs, basic preventative upkeep, and helping ensure that our facility and grounds remain safe, clean, and welcoming for residents, staff, and visitors. Required shift is day shift Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Drive responsibly and safely in order to ensure passenger safety and minimize damage or excessive wear and tear on facility vehicle; convey any mechanical problems identified with facility vehicle to the Transportation Services Coordinator as soon as possible.
Ensure vehicle is in safe operating condition (e.g. fuel, wash, tires, and inspection); notify Transportation Services Coordinator when vehicle needs service.
Comply at all times with the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws, NYS regulations contained in Article 19A, and Woodmark Transportation Manual.
Ensure passengers are safely assisted and secured in the vehicle before departing for destination.
Ensure safe transport of resident, personal belongings, and medical equipment to destination, as requested by resident.
Notify family member or contact of new resident transfer.
Notify the pick up and destination location of the time of arrival.
Perform routine inspections and light maintenance (e.g., changing light bulbs, minor plumbing fixes, basic painting, furniture moving).
Assist with general upkeep of common areas, grounds, and equipment.
Report any major repair needs to the Maintenance Director/Administrator.
Support housekeeping and safety efforts as needed (e.g., snow shoveling, clearing walkways).
Twenty One (21) years of age required; high school diploma or equivalency preferred.
Minimum two (2) years experience in a driving related position.
Valid New York Class A, B, OR C (CDL) License with passenger endorsement. Must be clean driving record with no violations (zero points) and no accidents in the previous 36 months. Any violation is subject to individual review and subject to termination or disqualification to drive on behalf of the Company.
Initial and continuous compliance with Article 19-A of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law, which includes among other things, investigation of prior employment, prior and ongoing driving record, penal law convictions and continually passing the medical examinations, required drug testing, vision and hearing tests required pursuant to New York State regulations.
Knowledge of local roadways and directions, which encompass driving routes.
Knowledge of fleet vehicles and all handicap equipment including operational and safety procedures.
Understanding of the rights and needs of transit disabled passengers.
